Desiree Alliance Conference

Desiree Alliance Conference is being held this week here in Chicago. I went to the welcoming reception last night, which was awesome, and heard Margo St. James speak. I got to talk to her as well and I confess I tried not to act like a fangirl, but she has done and continues to do so much work on behalf of sex workers' rights (she started the movement in the US) that was an extension of the feminist activism she was involved with in the '70s. Anyway, I am very excited to attend and interact with sex workers of all stripes. As someone who will be entering the sex industry, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn all that I can. It's one thing to read a book about the sex industry written by sex workers and it's quite another to talk with them in person.

Everyone here is just FANTASTIC! A great group of women and men and we're all learning and sharing and sweating together since Chicago decided to go subtropical this week. I got to meet Amber Rhea and RenEv, who is so tiny I can't fathom why anyone would be physically threatened by her existence, and the awesome Amanda Brooks who will be speaking tomorrow and Robyn Few, who is just fierce beyond belief. I also made friends with a spiritual sex worker, an escort who goes by the name Emma from Melbourne, FL. Also, Descara was very inspirational and informational. Anyway, the conference goes until Sunday. The Desiree Alliance is always grateful for donations to help with their outreach and sex worker community projects, so definitely donate if you care about sex workers, men, women, human rights and definitely if you've ever used the services of sex workers.
